- Don’t think of the negatives
- Focus on the positives
- Stay calm and make rational choices
- Look at your situation from a different angle
This quote by Aristotle is relatable to each and everyone one of us. Everytime we are in a stressful or dark situation, our first instinct is to think of all the negatives. This usually leads to us being overwhelmed, stressed and exhausted. Instead, this quote is metaphorically trying to tell us to look for the silver lining, or the positive aspect of your situation. Simply put, be optimistic and positive. In the quote, darkest moments represent bad situations and the light represents the positive side of your situation. It’s not always easy to remain positive but it is always better than allowing yourself to think of all the negatives and everything that could go wrong because that will always lead to panic. That panic will influence us to rash decisions or actions that most likely turn out to be the wrong one. In times like this, it’s really easy to panic which is why we recommend that you calm down, take a deep breath and think about how badly it could have been. Yes, you may be asking how your situation should be considered “lucky” but there is definitely someone out there who has it way worse than you. Just because there is someone else who has it worse than you does not mean we are trying to dismiss your situation or a situation you have experienced but we are trying to help you see it from a different angle. Not the “ I tripped on the floor and now my butt is sore” angle but the “At least I didn’t break something” angle. This simple trick usually helps us to process everything and be more calm and rational. In conclusion, don’t count your misfortunes, count your blessings in disguise!
